While cutting back to 1000 calories a day is a pretty drastic step, it can be an effective way to lose a few pounds quickly, or kick-start a longer term weight loss plan. Our 1000 Calorie Diet Menu packs in as much good nutrition as possible whilst trying to keep it simple, tasty and realistic. We wouldn't recommend following this for more than a week though as you'll soon be lacking essential nutrients.

Breakfast: Banana sandwich
1 small banana (80 kcals)
2 small slices wholemeal bread (145 kcals)
200 ml glass fruit juice (50 kcals)
TOTAL = 275 kcals
Lunch: Soup and a Roll
1 bowl of vegetable soup (up to 100 kcals)
1 small wholemeal roll (up to 150 kcals)
TOTAL= 250 kcals
Dinner:
Roast chicken and veggies

70g roast chicken breast (take the skin off!) (120 kcals)
80g potatoes, mashed with 30ml semi-skimmed milk (100 kcals)
60g broccoli, steamed or boiled (20 kcals)
50g carrots, boiled (15 kcals)
100ml gravy (made from granules) (20 kcals)
TOTAL= 275 kcals
Treats:

1 low fat yoghurt (60 kcals)
1 pack low fat crisps (100 kcals) OR 1 cereal bar (100 kcals)
1 low calories hot chocolate drink (40 kcals)
TOTAL= 200 kcals GRAND TOTAL = 1000 calories

In addition, you should drink plenty of water, and may also consume black tea and coffee and low calorie carbonated drinks such as Diet Coke.
